‘Tis the Season

4 December 2008

I know I’ve been slacking in my duties here at WordPress.  The visit last week got cancelled, I fell down the steps Saturday and hurt my back, no visits this week (so far) and these are the final two weeks of the semester which are HECTIC!  There should be no excuses for ignoring my spiritual journey, and truthfully, I haven’t been… I’ve just been keeping the thoughts and prayers internal this week.  So, in an effort to make some waves here and also pay homage to God, I will share with you an e-mail from Melissa about why Jesus kicks Santa’s butt:

Santa lives at the North Pole …
JESUS is everywhere.
Santa rides in a sleigh …
JESUS rides on the wind and walks on the water.
Santa comes but once a year …
JESUS is an ever present help.
Santa fills your stockings with goodies …
JESUS supplies all your needs.
Santa comes down your chimney uninvited…..
JESUS stands at your door and knocks, and then enters your heart
when invited.
You have to wait in line to see Santa …
JESUS is as close as the mention of His name.
Santa lets you sit on his lap….
JESUS lets you rest in His arms.
Santa doesn’t know your name, all he can say is “Hi little boy or girl, what’s your name?” …
JESUS knew our name before we did. Not only does He know our name, He knows our
address too. He knows our history and future and He even knows how many hairs are on our heads.
Santa has a belly like a bowl full of jelly …
JESUS has a heart full of love.
All Santa can offer is HO HO HO …
JESUS offers health, help and hope.
Santa says “You better not cry” ….
JESUS says “Cast all your cares on me for I care for you.”
Santa’s little helpers make toys …
JESUS makes new life, mends wounded hearts, repairs broken homes and
builds mansions.
Santa may make you chuckle but …
JESUS gives you joy that is your strength.
While Santa puts gifts under your tree …
JESUS became our gift and died on a tree.
It’s obvious there is really no comparison.
We need to remember WHO Christmas is all about.
We need to put Christ back in CHRISTmas, Jesus is still the reason for
the season.

I thought that was rather cool.  I know some of you aren’t Christians, but I thought that was just an interesting and poignant perspective.  I hear all of these people out there saying we can’t say “Merry Christmas” anymore.  Why not?  If I were Jewish, I would say Happy Hanukkah and not be ashamed of it.  If you want to say happy holidays, go ahead, but don’t be ashamed to say Merry Christmas.  It’s a season of giving and of thanks.  Christians know why we celebrate and others celebrate only the giving and thanks.   Makes me think of that saying, “Can’t we all just get along?”  Is there not enough room in the world for ALL faiths and beliefs?  Good grief.  Are some people so insecure in their beliefs that they cannot STAND for anyone professing and celebrating their own?  Please, let’s remember each other in this season.  Remember why God sent Jesus to us.  Remember why YOU celebrate the holiday and don’t fret about why another does!

ASAP.  God bless.
